Will Co., IL. (ECWd) –
Illinois State Senator Michael Hastings has made new filings in the Rule 224 Motion he filed attempting to find out which public employee had distributed copies of the damning police report filed against him by his wife which alleged he choked her and slammed her into a door, called her a “bitch” and a “whore” in front of the children, and otherwise emotionally and verbally abused her.
Hastings filed a Motion in court for discovery prior to a potential lawsuit alleging “defamation, false light invasion of privacy and related torts arising from the dissemination of false statements of fact in a police report that the Frankfort police department prepared on or about June 20, 2021.”
In these new Aug 26, 2022, filings, Hastings is asking the Court to schedule his Rule 224 Petition and to permit him to serve interrogatories and document requests on the Village of Frankfort and the County of Will.
He is specifically seeking the identity of anyone who viewed the report, the identity of anyone who may have given the report to anyone else, and a copy of the unredacted report.
This will be an interesting one to watch, especially since police reports are public records, and a police officer simply writes down what a witness tells them.
