Wapella Twp Official Given Ultimatum: Resign or be Prosecuted –

Wapella Township, IL. (ECWd) –

Receipts from December 2021, the month prior to getting caught abusing the taxpayers, show Eldon Cusey purchased the following:

• 8 – 30-pack cases of Bud Light
• 50 pounds of Dog Chow
• 60 pounds of Cat Food
• A 7-egg Electric Cooker
• Heater Base for a Chick Waterer

There is absolutely no way he could not know what he was doing.

According to the May 10, 2022, meeting minutes, Eldon Cusey, the former Wapella Township Road Commissioner was given an ultimatum by the Township Board, which was recommended by the township attorney after an audit of his use of the township’s credit card.

The sweet-heart deal? Pay back the $27,253.00 and resign from office or face prosecution. He did as asked; made the restitution and resigned from office.

We believe he should still face prosecution as any alleged deal made by the township should not waive prosecution for outright theft. It is a slap in the face to the taxpayers of Wapella Township and we urge township residents to forward this information to the DeWitt County Sheriff for investigation and referral for prosecution. Eldon Cusey’s ability to hold any public office should be forever prohibited.

The township board owes the public more than a restitution and resignation, they owe them referral for prosecution – Cusey violated the sacred trust placed in elected officials by the electorate.
