Boone Co., IL. (ECWd) –
Our previous article indicated a Boone County Board member was under investigation, and we can now confirm it is Boone County Board Chairman Karl Johnson as the board member under investigation, and the Illinois State Police have taken charge of the investigation since the Sheriff and State’s Attorney both claimed conflicts of interest in the situation with the board chairman.
Last December, the Boone County State’s Attorney sent a letter to board members indicating allegations against one member of the board, and steps that were taken to eliminate or minimize any further instances of the same conduct, without specifying exactly what that conduct consisted of. The version of the December letter we received under the Freedom of Information Act contained two redactions where the steps taken, and obligation on the board member(s) were redacted.
We are still unaware of exactly which issues prompted this investigation, but we do know he operates or works for a business who may have contracted with or sold items to the county engineer.
We received this information after requesting copies of complaints lodged against certain board members, and another request for copies of complaints lodged against the board chairman – this was returned on the request naming the board chairman.
