CAPRON, IL. (ECWd) –
During the January 11, 2022, village board meeting, the President of the village of Capron announced the Christmas party alcohol purchases were reimbursed to the village and apologized for the purchases.
Other members mentioned it was a community event (but “the community” was never invited).
A comment was made that it was to show appreciation to employees and other people (but employees get appreciated with their paychecks, and only one volunteer group was invited).
Finally, the “lots of other municipalities do this” comment is insufficient.
We applaud them for reimbursing the village and hope this never happens again.
Here (click here) is the article we published explaining the alcohol purchases for a Christmas party.

Posted at 13:15h, 15 JanuaryClearly this was about the purchase of alcohol using a community relations fund and not about facilitating relationships among those who were invited to drink and make merry, some of whom are volunteers and others who are paid little.
Time will tell what happens on account of the one member asserting “I don’t think you should have to apologize” over the ideas presented by the village president. Otherwise, it seemed the amends he sought were given in the ensuing discussion,
Motor fuel tax and alcohol tax are higher in Illinois than in Wisconsin.
