“Without so much as even contacting the parents first, the Teutopolis Unit 50 School District stuck this young man and four other children each in separate confined rooms for several hours just because these children were trying to breath freely without a mask on their face.

I’m told they never really checked on them or provided any sort of education. Some were even stuck in tiny closets with no windows of any sort.

Look at the despair on this child’s face.

My heart is absolutely broken for these children who are being treated like criminals.

New rules (below) for isolating students became effective in June of 2021. Starting on page 26, Section 10-20.33 (c), of this new Bill, explains procedures for school district to isolate or restrain students. In short, isolation may only be used when a student’s behavior presents an imminent danger or serious physical harm to the student or others, when other less intrusive measures have been tried and failed, staff members have been trained in isolation techniques, etc.

Use of the following for isolation is prohibited: 1. a locked room, 2. a confining space such as a closet, 3. room where student cannot be continually observed, 4. where the procedure or room is contrary to current rules.
