ILLINOIS (ECWd) –
In the past several weeks, school districts in Illinois have been notified to expect a shortage of food deliveries, and at least one school district was told the food supply company was canceling the remainder of their contract due to a shortage of delivery drivers and other supply chain issues. Similar things are happening in Alabama (read this).
Here are two examples:
North Mac Schools recently emailed a message to parents asking them to pack lunches for their children. In the email, the school claims to be experiencing food disruptions in delivery and supply chain issues, and labor shortages. Kohn Wholesale notified them of cancelation of normal food deliveries for the remainder of that week. The District further stated that it would adjust the school menus to accommodate for shortages of certain items.
A school district in Edgar County was notified by Kohl Wholesale that the district’s food service was canceled immediately and without notice.
In response to a question, the Superintendent stated the following:
“They canceled our food service immediately without any notice. It caught us off guard. I spent that weekend calling around to ensure we could get food deliveries. We never had an interrupted food program for kids. They should call the hospitals that are near them to see who their food provider is. That would help them form a list.”
He also stated the district is now using B & B out of Terre Haute, Indiana.
The letter received from Kohl, leaves the impression more than one customer of their has been impacted by the sudden discontinuation of food deliveries.
