Former President Donald Trump files answer to Article of Impeachment – Will the Constitution matter?

UNITED  STATES – (ECWd) –

Former President Donald Trump has filed his Answer to the Article of Impeachment.  Considering the Constitutional is crystal clear on who can be impeached, we wonder if our Constitution matters any longer in this country.

Regardless of your position on the former President, we encourage everyone to read the Answer and think long and hard about the significance of our Constitution.  If it can be ignored to impeach a former president, where do unconstitutional acts by elected officials end?

    In my opinion, apart from the grammar error in item 5 on page 10 (it, not its), the 45th President’s response reads well and good.

    The Constitution did not say anything about using Twitter to encourage and coordinate a riot to overthrow a lawful election so Trump must be innocent.

      You are correct, it says nothing about using Twitter for any purpose. Have you read the actual transcript of his speech? If that speech is now perceived to be insurrection I would speak softly moving forward!

    On March 2, 1876, former Secretary of War William Belknap was impeached by the House just minutes after his resignation. Subsequently the House voted unanimously to send the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate, and the Senate voted it retained impeachment jurisdiction over former government officials. Belknap was subsequently acquitted.

    So if Justice Roberts is stepping out, why not let another Justice preside? Why does it goto a Senator who’s now going to be a Judge and Juror? I understand Impeachment is a Political Process not a Criminal/Judicial one. But even so, they’re impeaching for criminal reasons.

    Trump was impeached while still in office.

    His legal team should be citing Brandenburg v. Ohio, not focusing on the near the end of his term impeachment, which of course would mean a late trial to allow him to prepare. They could have just held a trial before he left office and given him no significant time to prepare.

    Had he a brain, he’d have resigned just before his term ended and let Mike Pence pre-emptively pardon him, Instead, he ticked off his own VP for simply certifying a legitimate election. Who’s the one with issues regarding the constitution? Bad hair man.

    Good riddance to the one term loser.
