Paris, IL. (ECWd) –

A new filing for a preliminary injunction as part of a civil right lawsuit in Federal Court has asked the court to close the Edgar County Jail until such time that it meets minimum state, constitutional and insurance requirements.

Other items requested in the preliminary injunction motion are:

  • cleaning supplies to keep his cell clean
  • a non-recorded and non-monitored telephone line to speak with his attorney once per week for at least 30 minutes
  • prohibit all Edgar County employees from confiscating Plaintiff’s legal and attorney/client paperwork
  • a paper copy of the Edgar County Jail Orientation Manual
  • regular outdoor recreation
  • heat to his cell
  • access to medical treatment for various conditions including bleeding from his penis, back and neck injuries, and dental care for a cracked tooth with a cavity

No Hearing date scheduled yet.

The Motion for Preliminary Injunction and Memorandum can be found here: MotionMemorandum

Plaintiff’s attorneys have provided the following:

The defendants have been served with the injunction and have gotten attorneys. Due to the nature of the case, it is now placed on the docket of Chief Judge Sara Darrow, in the Central District of Illinois Federal District Court.

Citizens who want to testify about the inhumane conditions at the Edgar County Jail can contact Redwood Law Office by mail at PO Box 864, St. Joseph, IL 61873.

16 years ago, we argued Board v Farnham . Farnham, who is on the county board, is privy to the fact that inmates and pretrial detainees have been subjected to constitutional violations for at least 20 years. A federal prosecutor who cared would see some of these as federal crimes.

Any citizens of Edgar County who claim to be Christians, know they have a duty to alleviate the suffering of those in jail.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, “I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:31-40

Citizens who wish to help fund this litigation can mail donations or a loan to Redwood Law Office, PO Box 864, St. Joseph, IL 61873

    Time and time again.

According to publications of the Illinois County Jail Inspector, Governor Pritzker’s agency hasn’t seen the inside of the Edgar County Jail in 18 months. Lawful standards are simple put, lawful standards…not to be confused with awful lawful, as in standards which are legally set and/or kept low by the status quo.

If Illinois can ignore the balanced budget amendment , it can ignore the rights of county jailbirds and everyone else for that matter. Incremental infringements to #2 facilitates unconstitutional actions by IL also. The people must hold government accountable.
