Proposed Illinois laws – Prepare yourself!

Springfield (ECWd) –

If people ever wonder why Illinois is in the mess that it’s in, look no further than the list of proposed legislation from 11/30/2018 to February 18, 2020.  While I have many thoughts on a lot of the bills being proposed, I will limit those thoughts to phrase my grandfather used all the time: “You can’t legislate stupid“.

As you review the overwhelming list that will continue to grow, you can click on the bill number on the left-hand side to pull up some basic information on the proposed law, to include the claimed synopsis of the legislation.  We urge you to not pay to much attention to the synopsis as many times the actual text of the bill is far worse than the synopsis represents.

To read the text of the proposed bills, look at the top of the page for the bill you selected and click on the “Full Text” tab.  When that page opens, look for the text in the law that is underlined.  The underlined portion represents the proposed changes to the law.  If you see portions lined out, that represents deletions to the law in place.

When you find a bill that you want to support or oppose, there is a way to file a “witness slip” through the General Assembly Dashboard.  Instructions for filling out a witness slip can be found at this link

Coming soon to Illinois Residents, the “Right to Breathe Tax”, a bill proposed by Chicago FatCats to tax Illinoisans for every breath taken in the state during their lifetime.

It’s been my experience that sometimes it doesn’t make any difference. I have been involved with groups who spoke and the committee didn’t pay any attention they (with the help of the lobbyist) had their mind made up. For that reason I have pretty much let the chips fall where they may. And, just hope for the best.
