Joliet Township – Danial Vera – From open and transparent to stone cold silence? – Part III

Will Co. (ECWd) –

We have always said you will know what you’re dealing with when it comes to public officials based on their actions at a public meeting.  We were warned in advance that Supervisor Vera ran things with an iron fist and that we should be prepared to get nowhere with our questions.

During our first Joliet Township meeting attendance, I raised several points of concern.  As can clearly be seen in the video, the Supervisor goes out of his way to respond and interact and even the lawyer chimes in to provide valuable information, although not in the best interest of his client in our opinoin. I appreciated the open dialog as more often than not, officials refuse to ever answer a question.  I thanked them for actually communicating during a meeting.

One citizen who attended the meeting said the behavior of the Supervisor was clearly inconsistent with past behavior.  In fact, I was told they have never seen him be so nice.

Now compare the actions of the Supervisor during our first meeting to that of the second meeting.

As is evident, the Supervisor wanted no part of answering a single question and for those that have attended past meetings, they confirmed they have never seen one finish so quickly with so little said.  So what changed from his claim of being open and transparent during our first visit to the new position of stone-cold silence, all in a span of two weeks?

Freedom of Information Act requests!

Our requests for public records are very specific and we suspect he realizes it would be best to keep his mouth shut.  We also suspect the new attorney has advised him to stay quiet as well.  And now that he has been named in a constructive fraud and embezzlement case we suspect he will not respond to anything except through the attorney.

Stay tuned for future articles.
