Illinois Cat Tax –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On October 14, 2019

SPRINGFIELD, IL. (ECWd) –

Earlier this year, Governor Pritzker sign several new Bills amending the various statutes related to dogs and cats.

Cat owners are now mandated to vaccinate against rabies, and counties are permitted to require registration and registration fees.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture issued a memorandum to all Counties explaining the new laws (read it below or here).

According to the memo:

  • P.A. 101-0210 – Requires kennel operators to meet certain requirements for fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and staffing of kennels while dogs and cats are on premises, effective January 1, 2020
  • P.A. 101-0295 – Changed definition of animal shelter, changes to foster homes (must be affiliated by formal written agreement permitting inspection), and other changes
  • P.A. 101-0299 – Requires all companion cats more than 4 months old to be vaccinated against rabies by a veterinarian, permits counties to implement a registration and fee structure for cats

I really don’t disagree – It won’t make things any worse – I hate it when people have “house” cats, but still let them roam… making messes in my yard in garden.

We left when we retired 7 plus years ago from the city of chicago, moved to indiana, and have never looked back. Get out while you can still sell your property!

It’s not bad enough that people are already dumping cats, but this is going to make it even worse

Because they already have the dogs under their thumbs. Or are you asking if pet fish will be next?
