Lincoln, IL. (ECWd) –
The Logan County Electoral Board met again on January 9th to hear an election petition objection against the nomination packets of Mr. Robert Letterley, who file his petition to be on the ballot for the Atlanta Library District.
The Objection was the same as those removed last week: failure to file a receipt for filing a Statement of Economic Interest. It is mandated in the Election Code that one be filed.
Letterley admitted he did not file a receipt for an SEI, and the Board determined that his name would not appear on the ballot.
Four other candidate’s names (Randy Brooks, Karen Horn, Marjory Dyer, and James Welchel) were removed last week, and will not appear on the ballot, caused by their failure to comply with the requirements of the Election Code.
An additional candidate withdrew her petitions.
In total, six people who had submitted their election petition packets to be candidates for Trustee of the Atlanta Public Library District will not appear on the ballot.
Finally, a person attending the Hearing asked why we were filming and taking photographs when the Courthouse policy restricts cameras, etc. from entering. The answer, as briefly stated by the Logan County State’s Attorney, is that the Open Meetings Act requires a public body to hold meetings in places convenient to the public, which includes the public who may wish to record a public meeting. Courthouse policy, or any other policy, cannot restrict a person’s statutory right to record a meeting subject to the Open Meetings Act.
