Commissioner Hansen resigned from Springfield Airport Authority –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On September 4, 2018

SPRINGFIELD, IL. (ECWd) –

We just received notice that Dr. Eric Hansen resigned his appointment to the Springfield Airport Authority on July 17, 2018.

We have previously written about his disqualification from serving in that appointed position.

In his letter, he states he is resigning due to “pressure from the Edgar County Watchdogs” without any mention of the text of the Airport Authorities Act, which specifically prohibits appointments to the Authority of any person who is a member of the governing body, or an officer or employee of a municipality, a county, or any other unit of local government.

Eric Hansen is a Commissioner on the Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission since at least 2012 – according to the online Statements of Economic Interest, which would be an officer or employee of a unit of local government.

So, we disagree with his stated reason for resigning, the Edgar County Watchdogs simply demanded compliance with the law, had Hansen quoted the Airport Authorities Act as his reason for resigning we would be celebrating his willful compliance with state law. Instead, we get an excuse.

Wow! Even the non-believers eventually get it….when they run out of options. Having said that, it takes big man to accept responsibility for one’s actions without blaming others.
Others that were only insisting that everyone follow Illinois Law equally.
Thank you for finally accepting responsibility for your part in violating Illinois Law and for resigning.
