KANKAKEE Co., IL. (ECWd) –
During today’s August 15, 2018 County Board Meeting, the Board considered its “flower fund” and purchase policy.
Board Chairman presented an opinion from the Kankakee County State’s Attorney whose advice was that there was “no public purpose” for these types of purchases.
We agree, and so does Article VIII, Section 1 of the Illinois Constitution.
The Board then voted to abolish the policy of using public funds for purchasing flowers and other items for funeral, births, etc.
We will post the meeting video and the State’s Attorney’s opinion as soon as we can obtain a copy.
