Coles County – $326.71 an hour! Oh wait, why not $1,306.62 for zero hours of work?

There are times when you find things being done by County Board members and public officials that simply put you back in your seat in total disbelief.  This is one of those cases.

According to payroll records, the Coles County Board has established a very lucrative, illegal in our opinion, pay structure for an illegally contracted person that benefited from the property tax mess two years ago. After getting caught issuing an illegal contract to Bob Becker to perform the work of the paid Supervisor of Assessments, it appears the county board is now getting very creative in their efforts to ensure this same person continues to get paid.

In February of 2018, a two-week payroll record for Bob Becker reflects he was paid $326.71 an hour for 4 hours of work!  In a second line entry, it dropped to $100 an hour for a claimed 38.5 hrs worked, bringing his two week total to $5,156.82.  We understand that the consulting pay is for consulting with the Coles County Board of Review, who has no authority to hire a consultant.

We initially thought this can’t be right, sadly it was and it’s even worse.

April 1-15, 2018, payroll reflects Becker was paid $1,306.82 for ZERO hours worked!  Yes, he was paid $1,306.82 FOR NOT WORKING!  

Can it get any worse?

That same payroll record where he got paid for nothing reflects he was paid an additional $6,700.00 for Consulting, bringing his two-week pay from April 1st,[no this is not an April fools joke], to April 15th, 2018 to a whopping $8,006.82.

Yes, over $8,000.00 for a two-week payroll. 

Although there is plenty more to expose with the Coles County Board and their attempted cover-up of an illegal contract, we are going to leave this article where it stands as most people get it.  No one in county government is worth $1,306.82 for doing nothing, let alone $326.71 an hour!
