Atlanta, IL. (ECWd) –
The Atlanta Public Library District canceled its regular meeting after it was noted that the Agenda had not been posted at the building at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting, a sign they can’t even follow the simple rules.
We suspect, but cannot prove, that the failure to post the agenda was concocted at their October meeting. Otherwise, there would have been no reason to vote to allow Bill Thomas to pay all bills thru January 2018. There is no December meeting on the schedule, which would seem to lead credence to our suspicions.
On another note, the residents in attendance stayed and we held an approximately 30 minute discussion on what I was prepared to present to the board during public comment.
After approximately 30 minutes, Board Chairman Randy Brooks popped into the room with a Deputy Sheriff and announced that we needed to leave the room.
Why he didn’t simply ask the residents leave, without having to waste valuable county resources and potentially endangering others by summoning a Sheriff Deputy, is something only he knows. The public was treated, by Randy Brooks, as if they were some potentially out-of-control mob waiting to cause destruction. the Deputy was professional and courteous, Brooks (or anyone else) calling for him was very unprofessional and discourteous.
After several people noted the building was actually a private building, and Randy Brooks was not the owner, Bill Thomas – who finally showed up to a meeting after missing them for the last 3 months – asked people to leave the building.
Which brings us to another question – how is it that one person can have unfettered access, and even provide handicap access to his private building thru the public building’s access points? Is that not yet another conflict of interest?
Our work is funded entirely thru donations and we ask that you consider donating at the below link. There is also a box to check for monthly recurring donations. Thanks in advance.
