DEKALB, IL. (ECWd) –
In response to the scathing Office of the Executive Inspector General’s report in reference to complaints lodged against NIU President Douglas Baker and others, where the OEIG stated that “President Baker mismanaged Northern Illinois University” the BoT appears to not even be concerned about the findings.
- The Board adopted a revised Whistleblower Policy
- President Baker issued a “Baker Report” “rededicating” himself publicly {to do the job he should have been doing all along}
Baker should have been immediately fired, I mean why wouldn’t he “rededicate” himself to NIU for the amount of public funds he’s receiving from them? It doesn’t mean he will actually follow the laws and policies, only that he will try harder next time to not get caught. His own rebuttal to the OEIG report indicates quite clearly that he does not believe he did anything wrong and that their report was inaccurate. Does that sound like someone who has taken responsibility for their actions?
We urge the Governor to replace these Board of Trustee members at the earliest possible moment – they are not blameless in this situation for they are charged with oversight [110 ILCS 685/30-45] of the President and the University. This BoT failed the public and the State of Illinois.
