NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY, DEKALB, IL. (ECWd) –
The Office of the Executive Inspector General (“OEIG”) investigation of Northern Illinois University (“NIU”) and its President, Douglas Baker, may have been wrapped up after more than 18 months – but the college is still paying legal fees, month after month, with no apparent end in sight to the legal billings.
Our most recent article (here) is from November of 2015 and talks about what we believe the OEIG is looking at, to include NIU’s procurement processes, employment practices, and travel expenses which included commuting from Washington state to NIU on an almost weekly basis.
There is some indication within the attorney invoices that this investigation may have finally ended since there was discussion regarding OEIG disclosures and follow-up to close-out of OEIG investigation.
Recently obtained attorney invoices indicate this billing for legal services is not over yet, and has been proceeding on a regular basis.
We will work to obtain any and all information available related to this investigation so we can inform you of the outcome.
