Kankakee, IL. (ECWd) –
The Interim Director of the Illinois Department of Transportation – Division of Aeronautics, Steve Young, has sent a letter to the Kankakee Valley Airport Authority questioning the qualification of Rende Langlois to remain on the airport authority board.
According to the letter, it appears to IDOT that Rende Langlois may be disqualified from acting as a Kankakee Valley Airport Authority(“KVAA”) Commissioner because of the appearance Langlois had a financial interest in the continued existence of the airport at the time of his appointment(s).
Langlois was appointed in 2015 and 2016, apparently had a contract at the time of his first appointment, and obtained another contract after his second appointment, to perform work at the KVAA under the business name of “Langlois Roofing, Inc” of which he is the President. The letter also points out that these contracts could give rise to possible violations of Section 3 of the Public Officers Prohibited Activities Act.
Under the Airport Authorities Act, Section 5, if it appears to IDOT that a commissioner may be disqualified, or may be guilty of misconduct or malfeasance in office or unwilling or unable to act, then IDOT shall notify the {KVAA} board, who shall then have the duty to hold a hearing in which Langlois must show cause why he should not be removed from office.
