LaSalle County State’s Attorney violates Freedom of Information Act –

By Kirk Allen & John Kraft

On October 14, 2016

LaSalle Co. (ECWd) –

When the top law enforcement officer of a county can’t follow the law it is time for the people to think long and hard about the type of society they are willing to accept.  As it relates to LaSalle County, it appears the power of the seat is getting to Brian Towne, as it appears he once again is in the middle of failing to follow the law.

On September 27th, 2016, I filed a Freedom of Information Act request seeking information on a police officer soliciting a prostitute case.  By law, such a request is to be complied with in 5 business days or they can take an additional 5 days with appropriate reference to the justifications outlined in the law.

Towne’s office failed to respond in the mandated time frame and withheld records, which constitutes an improper denial of records.

Towne’s office did not respond to this request until October 13, 2016, a full 11 business days after the request.

If a State’s Attorney is willing to violate our Freedom of Information laws, how can we ever trust they are in fact representing the people’s best interest when it comes to enforcing our laws.

Brian Towne appears to take a pick-and-choose position on the laws that will be enforced, violated, and abused.  Such behavior has no place in public service in our opinion.

Of interest, in this case, is the records we did receive appear to point to a cover-up by the police.  We will soon publish all the details on that matter.

In addition, we will also soon publish a letter sent to Towne by a State Representative seeking answers regarding SAFE Unit Commander Jauch and his claimed FBI credentials.  To date, Towne has ignored the State Representative.

In Morgan County, the SA holds campaign events at the High School football games. “All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.”
