Springfield, IL (ECWd) –
Frank Mautino, our Illinois State Auditor General, requested a stay in the case filed against him with the Illinois State Board of Elections. We first shared that story in this article. To date, he has refused to answer any questions regarding his questionable campaign expenditures.
“Going against the recommendation of the election board’s general counsel, the board voted 5-3 to deny a motion to stay its investigation while the U.S. Attorney’s office investigates hundreds of thousands of dollars in spending“, as quoted from the Illinois News Network reporting on the matter.
It is our understand that he has two weeks to amend his reporting records, however, we suspect he will invoke his fifth amendment rights either prior to or at the next hearing. We have confirmed that the State Legislators will have a press conference tomorrow in which a group of State Representatives will be asking for Mautino to resign from public office which may include an actual House Resolution calling for his resignation.
We have been calling for his resignation for some time now. We suspect as State Representative Ives referenced months ago, Mautino will fight to stay in office until he meets the 12-month clock which will lock in his pension at the higher scale due to his position as Auditor General. If that happens it appears there is no way of stripping him of that spiked pension even if found guilty of criminal violations by the Federal authorities.
