The old Standafer Construction building block south of 19th and Charleston (middle of block) is engulfed in flames this evening with firefighters on the scene.

Consider this please, just because an Untruthful statement is believed to be true in the mind of somebody that cannot discern between the truth and fiction, it still is not true.

Libel is a method of defamation expressed by PRINT, writing, pictures, signs, effigies, or any communication embodied in physical form that is injurious to a person’s reputation, exposes a person to public hatred, contempt or ridicule, or injures a person in his/her business or profession.
Slander definition: the action or crime of making a false SPOKEN statement damaging to a person’s reputation.
Hearsay definition: information received from other people that one cannot adequately substantiate; rumor.
Just to be clear on the definitions of these words used. Writing it is libel, speaking it is slander. HeArsay is rumor. Consider this please… Some rumors are proven to be true. Some remain a mystery unless investigated by asking questions. Have a nice day.

Posted at 19:01h, 02 JanuaryI know Standerfer and worked for him for years … I am not sure of what people are saying but if it was anything but an accident it would shock the hell out of me … Standerfer was one of the most honest construction employers I worked for in 30 years , only working for 2 , and the other was from Paris …

Posted at 10:30h, 02 JanuaryI understand that, obviously… but, I thought you would maybe investigate these allegations (hearsay) made by some people in our community locally. Consider it a “tip” at this point, until it can be verified.
I assume the Mattoon Fire Department or an official fire investigation by the appropriate agencies will take place in this case. If I can provide any evidence, I will publicly disclose that not only to you, but also to the appropriate agencies involved. Thanks for the consideration though. Have a nice day.
