Lerna residents – Question answered, thanks –

Lerna, IL. (ECWd) –
UPDATE: We received a phone call from the person in the photo who claims to have not meant it as a threat, but more as a safety thing while we were down around E. St. Louis. He sounded sincere, so I consider this issue closed. As such, the photo and video have been deleted from this page.
For those that live in Lerna and were at the September village trustee meeting, please help identify this person.
This person communicated what I consider to be a threat to me after the meeting and I would appreciate knowing his name.
The threat consisted of a comment about “I have friends“, and “make sure you don’t get shot in the back” .
Any assistance is appreciated.

    Does this boil down to writing… Or rewriting… A contract saying that the mayor and the maintenance person are one in the same? I mean, 5 minutes on a word document and some signatures and this is done, right?

      No. The Illinois Municipal Code states the duties and responsibilities of the mayor/president. Because the mayor would still be in a contract with himself..additionally, you cannot change the compensation of an elected official during their term of office.
      Plus, he would still be working for himself – can’t happen.

    I voted for and support the Lerna Mayor. He works very hard to make this community presentable. Lots of properties are un-kept and non-maintained. So here is a man, our Lerna Mayor, who mows yards; mows along the main road; rides around town multiple times day and night, and does so because he cares about his village. We have a Pleasant Grove Township Supervisor/Road Commissioner who maintains roads in his neighborhood only and then tries to not do his job because it is too cold, roads have snow or ice, or his employee ditched the snow plow. Unlike the Pleasant Grove Township Supervisor, our Lerna Mayor is ONE OF A KIND who truly CARES ABOUT HIS VILLAGE.
    Threatening any village, city, municipal, state, or federal official is illegal. The individual making threats at a village meeting should be asked to leave. If individuals attending the meeting felt threatened, then calling county law enforcement is valid.
    Finally, a comment for Edgar County Watchdog. Ruffle the feathers of your own communities within your own county. Leave Coles County to deal with their own.

      I am so happy that you voted for someone who commits a crime against the very people he swore to serve, every day he goes to work, simply by going to work as the maintenance man while he is also the mayor.
      Damn the rule of law, it doesn’t apply because you’ve always done it this way…

    Let me translate Amy Bateman’s post for you all just don’t kill the messenger!! lol Oh…and I promise not to use all caps 🙂 “I don’t understand why you residents from Edgar County are so worried about what is going on in Lerna. Oh yeah…now I remember! You, or should I say the person who lost to the mayor, have people stirring up crap! You only blast this crap because Coles County asked you to leave our meeting and not come back!! Our mayor, Don, has been mayor for many many years!! He’s an awesome man who always goes above and beyond for the residents here in Lerna. Don, our mayor, isn’t even the one who called Coles County because he didn’t want any problems. There were so many residents from Lerna at the meeting backing him up over all this stupidity and chaos you all have started. Get a life!! Our life in Lerna is great!!”
    Now, keep in mind, I do not have the best grammar in the world but I tried the best I could to decipher what was being said and make it where it at least made some sense. i think her schooling failed her lol.

    I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU RESIDENTS FROM EDGAR COUNTY ARE SO WORRIED ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON IN LERNA…..OOO YA..NOW I REMEMBER. .YOU OR SHOULD.I SAY THE PERSON WHO LOST TO MAYOR..HAS PEOPLE STIRRING UP CRAP!!         He rides a bike everywhere, as well as wife walks to lerna from their home! (heard there grape vine).?
        House on the right, outside of lerna is who I heard that guy is?!?!
        Isn’t this the same guy that just built stuff n bought stuff in lerna? Sounds like this all went crazy
