Edgar County Board gives tax money to unregistered entity –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On April 18, 2015

PARIS, IL. (ECWd) –

During the Edgar County Board meeting on “tax day”, April 15, 2015, the Edgar County Board, among other things, voted to give money to an unregistered entity that purports to go by the name of the “Chrisman Area Community Club“. This club does not “officially” exist according to the Illinois Secretary of State’s Corp./LLC database, and it is not listed in the Illinois Attorney General’s Charitable Organization database.

The donation was $600 and came from the Hotel/Motel tax fund.

This is unacceptable and should not be tolerated. Last year when this same organization asked for tax money, I informed the board during that board meeting that the Chrisman Area Community Club was not registered to do business in Illinois, and never has been, but they gave them the money anyway.

This makes me wonder how many other non-registered organizations are given your tax money…

Amazing this board has so much extra money in the till they can give to anyone. Doesn’t the board have better uses for their funds?

These funds are supposed to be used for this purpose, but to give it to an unregistered organization is a problem in my opinion.

So any Charity can ask for money and receive it?

Should be able to if it is for tourism and you are legitimate charity…

So in other words, they don’t do any checking on the recipients of this money. They just take the organizations word? Are there any formal requirements for an organization/entity to receive money from the Hotel/Motel Fund? And if so, what are they? Doesn’t anyone on the board check out the legitimacy of the request? Guess not, since they don’t bother to verify applicants for Airport Manager. Why bother wasting time to verify any information… it’s not their money, it’s the taxpayers…..and as long as the taxpayers don’t question it, it’s ok, Even when it’s brought to their attention they STILL don’t bother to do the right thing. How sad is that? The only way to make a change it appears is to make a complete change to the board. The taxpayers just can’t AFFORD to keep this board. If they can’t/WON”T do the job they are elected to do, we need to replace them. And it needs to be done ASAP. Isn’t there anyone out there that wants to actually do the job and do it properly???
