Directed Censorship at College of DuPage –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On October 4, 2014

College of DuPage (ECWd) –
 .
College of DuPage (“COD”) faculty and staff have reported to us that the College has taken the unprecedented step of censoring content from employee email accounts that does not fit their agenda. This includes actually deleting emails that have already been delivered and viewed.
 .
Friday morning, October 3, 2014, American Transparency’s “Open The Books“, sent an email to  those having a COD address to inform them of the “Golden Hammer Award” presented by the Washington Times. Shortly after noon the same day, the emails were deleted and truth was denied to those at COD.
 .
This email was highly critical of the COD Administration, including the President, the Board of Trustees, and some COD Foundation members. Facts were presented supporting the information provided, but the College determined their faculty and staff were not entitled to view the information presented. (View the email here)
 .
COD has no problem providing access to their own propaganda, but refuse to allow access to items critical of the way they do business.
 .
COD is attacking the basic rights of Freedom of Conscience and Freedom of Speech, all from the official actions of an institution of higher learning.
 .
Faculty and Students are encouraged to submit this case to FIRE, Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. (click here)
.
What may become a greater concern is the fact e-mails are considered public records. Once they are received those public records may not be destroyed without approval from the state.  Is this effort of censorship a violation of the recently signed legislation that now makes it a felony to destroy public records?
