ROBBINS, IL. (ECWd) –
The Chicago Tribune recently wrote an article (click here) about Robbins, Illinois, and how local residents fought back, and continue to fight, against a proposed quarry and the devastating effect it would have on their town. The proposal would have taken over about 1/3 of the village and destroyed it.
The part of the article that interested me the most, besides residents fighting back, was the short video of a Robbins homeowner, Shirley Howard, talking about getting involved. The video is very short, but one thing she talked about when speaking of her fellow residents of Robbins, IL. was that “You didn’t know you were so valuable…Once you wake a sleeping giant, you are in trouble, and these people are sleeping giants that have been awaken…”
This is another example of citizens that are fed up with the way their local government is running, and taking a stance against it.
The complete story is here: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-robbins-quarry-met-20140625,0,1410853.story.
It is an excellent article and the video is well worth the 2 minutes to watch it.

Posted at 17:27h, 28 JuneI lived in Harvey in the middle to late seventies. This area of south Chicago has a lot of good history and families. Fight for you rights and homes, give them an inch and they’lll destory your whole village. It’s not about you, it’s all about them. Once that ground is distrubed and dug up there is no chance to reclaim it. Stand your ground, the rewards they promise are just smoke screens.
