Three FOIA Suits in Two Weeks vs. Jimmy Wells and Edgar County…

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On November 7, 2013

PARIS, IL. (ECWd) –

After numerous attempts to gain access to public records at the Edgar County Airport, with nothing but resistance and improper denials, there comes a point when enough is enough.

Pursuant to the fundamental philosophy of the American constitutional form of government, it is declared to be the public policy of the State of Illinois that all persons are entitled to full and complete information regarding the affairs of government and the official acts and policies of those who represent them as public officials and public employees consistent with the terms of this Act. Such access is necessary to enable the people to fulfill their duties of discussing public issues fully and freely, making informed political judgments and monitoring government to ensure that it is being conducted in the public interest.

Inaction or incomplete responsive documents from Mr. Wells has led to the filing of a third a FOIA lawsuit this morning against Edgar County and Jimmy Wells in his capacity as the Edgar County Airport FOIA Officer.

Citizens should not have to go to these measures to view public records but as our regular readers are aware, some in this county feel they are above the law.

The first two are HERE and HERE – a copy of this filing can be viewed here.

To Jane. All you comment on is true – but worse yet – on several occasions Jimmy has confessed that he cannot do his job. Listen to the tapes……. So we have a hired employee who is not honest, has cost the tax payers money because of his ignorance and/or arrogance and is not able to perform the job as required…….. And – I bet the County boys will blame the WatchDogs for having the gull to complain and then expose to the taxpayers their incompetence in managing their elected responsibilities. Your right again, we too are sick of it all.

Sick of it all……. I have a question. Approximately how much does it cost the Airport for each of these FOI lawsuits if they have to pay? What costs are there for each of these lawsuits that you have to file in order for Mr. Wells to actually do his job? We ( the people of Edgar County) are paying his salary which includes being the FOI officer, correct? Maybe the extra costs incurred because he is NOT doing the job he is being paid to do should be deducted from his wages? Since we can’t seem to remove him from his position, there should be some way to offset the extra expenses he’s incurring for the airport. Of course, any other business that had an employee that was INTENTIONALLLY costing them money would not have a job for long. But then again, we’re talking about Edgar County. It’s so sad that all this dirty laundry is being viewed by people all over the state… heck, all over the country! Just makes the PEOPLE OF EDGAR COUNTY look like idiots for allowing the County Board and the Airport Board to continue to do things as they like, instead of as they should be done. When and how do we stop this? Must we wait for elections to get things changed? There has to be some way that these people can be removed… it’s time to take action. Our county can’t continue to bleed money because the people that we put our trust in have their OWN agenda………and it’s definitely not the TRUTH.
