Clark Co., IL. (ECWd) –
Last Saturday evening, August 22, 2015, there was an incident at Mill Creek Lake, within the Clark County Park District, at the boat launch ramp where three women were injured, two with burns to their legs and a third with back injuries.
All three were taken to Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana, treated, and later released.
All three women are from the Indianapolis area, had been boating, and were in the process of loading the boat onto its trailer when the operator tried to start the engine, it died, then he tried to start it again causing the engine compartment to “blow-up” and catch fire.
The fire was quickly extinguished while in the lake, with no fuel or other hazardous materials leeching into the water.
A paramedic with the Terre Haute Fire Department was on-site (not in his official capacity) and made the initial call to Clark County 9-1-1.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources officer arrived and conducted an initial investigation.
No official cause to the engine fire reported as of this article.
