Public Outcry Prevailed: Lame-duck Board’s motion to remove County Treasurer retracted –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

Shelbyville, IL. (ECWd) –

The Special Meeting of the Shelby County Board opened with controversy yesterday.

On the Agenda for consideration and vote was a motion to remove the elected County Treasurer from office.

After considerable discussion and public comments, the sponsor of the motion removed the motion from the agenda.

Also discussed during public comment were objections to a recent letter from an outgoing board member asking the county board to pay real estate taxes for the farmers who lease out county farm land. We doubt it will ever come up for a vote in Shelby County.

Holy Cow! A county with a population of 21,000 has TWENTY TWO County Board members. 11 districts with at least two reps, and one with 3. Wow!

Priceless was the window, on Its own accord, slamming shut! That, and the outgoing chairman saying “I’m not dumb.”

    Thank you, ECWd’s!

The districts only have two reps. There is not one with three.
