Fired Librarian sends Cease and Desist to Blogger who didn't use her name -

BY JOHN KRAFT & KIRK ALLEN

ON July 6, 2020

Bloomington, IL. (ECWd) -

Mrs. Regina Boe, a former librarian at the Carol Stream Library, has sent a "Cease and Desist" letter to blogger Diane Benjamin, owner of blnnews.com, claiming certain posts and comments were about her when her name was not used.

Apparently, Regina Boe thinks there is only one person named Regina, so any mention of the name must be about her.

The letter purports to be a "Cease and Desist" and even includes parts of the definition of an unnamed Illinois law that Boe alleges was violated.

The second page even includes an "assurance" that she wanted Diane to sign and return. We highly doubt any such signature or return will ever be made.

The alleged offending comment was: "You can go away Regina, I just wanted people to see what lunacy looks like."

The third page ends with "this is a cease and desist order."

Letters such as these aimed at writers and media are simple scare tactics and rarely work as intended.

We typically write about all cease and desist letters sent to us:

  • (former) Tri-State Fire Protection District Trustee Micheal Orrico
  • (former) Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department
  • an Edgar County Sherriff's Deputy

BLNNEWS.com had previously written about Boe's online activities while she was on the clock at the library, which included several comments made to the blnnews blog. Boe was allegedly fired from the library for these actions.

I guess the point we are trying to make here, is that cease and desist letters written to private individuals rarely work when you have no solid proof of false writings, and in this case, any proof that the comment was directed to the person who thought it was directed at her.

These letters do give us something to write about...especially when it is a (former) librarian attempting to trample on first amendment rights.
