AG determined Onarga Library violated the law –

Onarga, IL. (ECWd) –

On December 23, 2019, the Illinois Attorney General’s Public Access Counselor issued a determination that the Onarga Public Library District violated Section 2.02(a) of the Open Meetings Act by failing to post its May 14, 209 meeting agenda where it would be continuously available for at least 48 continuous hours prior to the meeting.

On May 15, 2019, I filed a Request for Review with the PAC alleging the library failed to post its meeting agenda where it could be continuously available for at least the 48 continuous hours prior to its meeting.

The library responded by stating it posted the agenda on a bulletin board inside the library, but failed to say it was continuously available.

The PAC explained that agendas must be available for 48 continuous hours prior to a meeting, and that had the library posted it on the public body’s website it would have fixed the problem.

Since the library, after further complaints, has started posting its agenda on the outside door where it can be read even when the library is closed, the PAC did not issue any remedial actions.
