Bloomington-Normal’s Connect Transit loses over $900,000.00 per month –

Bloomington, IL. (ECWd) –

I met Diane Benjamin on a cold, windy morning, in front of Bloomington-Normal’s Mass Transit, Connect Transit, to discuss its massive financial losses each month – all paid for by the taxpayer.

According to public records obtained by Diane, Connect Transit loses more than $900,000.00 each month (above what they bring on in fares), and those operating costs are paid by local taxpayers, the State of Illinois, and the Federal Government.

The federal government is providing Connect Transit with a $6 million grant to purchase 6 new electric buses, a grant to install solar panels on the transit building, and a grant to install showers.

We also learned the Attorney General is investigating allegations of ADA accommodation violations lodged against Connect Transit.

Watch the video, and we apologize in advance for the wind noise in parts of it (we had the windscreen on the microphone, but it was blowing so hard it was like there wasn’t one on it during the gusts).

Sounds like another great Illinois Taxpayer funded black hole! I hope they can get more funds to drive around more empty busses! Hey but it’s good job creation, isn’t it?
