Carlinville’s Alderman Cindy Campbell doesn’t want open meetings –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On August 6, 2018

CARLINVILLE, IL. (ECWd) –

In her effort to keep Carlinville residents in the dark when it comes to the alleged water company being forced down their throats, Alderman Cindy Campbell wrote an email last October voicing her concern about open meetings and the water company.

Campbell: “I’d like to get an attorney so we can be assured that we don’t have to have open meetings.”

Why would she not like open meetings?

Because residents are asking questions and she doesn’t want to answer them.

Campbell: “That is my concern since Carlinville is under a microscope on this thing with certain people!

Nice job keeping people in the dark! Who do these sheeple think they are to ask questions and demand answers?

Read the email here.

Something else to chew on:

While these decision are being made by the board of this IARWC without any city council approval/disapproval, there is unequal representation on the board:

Carlinville: -population: 5665 people with 1 vote on the board

Dorchester: -population 142 people with 1 vote on the board

Ratio is about 1:40 – (a Carlinville resident’s portion of the vote is 1/40th of a Dorchester resident’s vote) how can anyone think this is OK and continue to allow it to happen?

The ratio goes down slightly when other public entities are added, but Carlinville resident still get shafted.

Unbelievable! The silent Cindy Campbell has decided no open meetings for something as serious as the where the water will come from for the citizens of Carlinville! Has she not heard of the Open Meetings Act of Illinois? If she hasn’t why is she sitting in this council? Wake up Carlinville!!! You are about to snookered big time and become a ‘ghost town’ if these people get there way. The only ones who profit in this sham are your mayor and her investors in this scheme… and all at your expense.

It seems to be common sense to tap an underground water source that is less exposed to pollution and is easier to treat than an open source. Your attacks against Cindy Campbell are out of context and simply mean spirited. Asking for witty comments suggests that you are in this for your own entertainment, rather than for the genuine good of Carlinville.

Interesting you make no mention of her wanting to circumvent transparency by not having open public meetings, the point of the article. This had nothing to do with the source of water. It was about her desire for avoiding OMA.

How is it out of context? How is it mean-spirited? Do you have proof of your comments comparing underground water to open source water treatments?

I believe ( like the lady above who comments on water quality) that well meaning citizens may have the best intentions but can be very much ill informed & then spread that misinformation like it is fact. No matter where the water comes from (underground water also has issues & could have contamination now are in the future from chemicals (chemicals run down and underground too or sustainability issues) it all has to be treated!. The EPA will require to test all sources and ALL sources will have to be treated. Then all sources have to be treated more as they run further down a line to their final source. Running a pipe with treated water from Litchfield Lake vs running a pipe with treated water from Jerseyville 45 miles?? Facts and common sense will tell you the best deal for Carlinville is Litchfield! Look at the proposals$$ – Litchfield hands down is the winner. It is misleading to the average person when citizens say things like what this lady has stated. It may sound good but not the complete story. Please get the complete story and not from those who profit from this project going to Jerseyville or have political reasons to make this project happen. For Jerseyville Rural area – this is a great deal!! Carlinville citizens…..get your pocket books out- this is NOT a good deal! The water either way will be treated and good water for our community, just how much do you want to spend???? Being on that IARWcompany does not mean we have control of our rates……that is another huge misinformation issue! AS far as ” leave a witty comment”….I think that is a nice element of your comment section….another words – lets keep it light not mean spirited. As far as Cindy -I believe she is a very well meaning individual but she has agreed to sit at the table and has been part of supporting the forming of this private company (which I believe has been formed illegally) and our own council members are told they should not attend these meetings & could be arrested if they attend meetings. Cindy is part of these type of decisions being made. Honestly……..its our tax money and our own city representatives aren’t welcome at the meetings?? That is not ok with me and several in the community. . Cindy is an adult she is not a child. Other council members have taken heat for their view or stands and have made newspaper print for it – its part of being a pubic servant. Cindy agreed to be put as the Carlinville Rep. Please be properly informed on both sides of this issue if you really care, don’t take it personally- it’s a business deal that will effect our eco. dev., our pocketbooks, our lake and most important how much we pay for clean water! – Ask the opposing side why they feel the way they do & really listen and look at the true facts? Of, course then everyone has the right to their view. I respect others views but only if they know ALL the true facts. I truly have listened to both sides. I did not buy what the engineer from the IARWC side was trying to sell me – it did NOT hold water when I talked to other experts on this issue. Thank you for listening.
