Grand Jury True Bills tell more of the story on charges against Brian Towne –

By Kirk Allen & John Kraft

LaSalle Co. (ECWd) –

A Grand Jury was presented with 25 criminal charges pertaining to the former LaSalle County State’s Attorney, and it appears, the eight that did not come back as a true bill of indictments were related to giving public funds to the local School.  What is key with that is the fact the use of seized funds was not allowed to be used for such purpose until after Towne was exposed, and he managed to have the law changed to make what was illegal, legal. That being the case, it cleared him of what should have been possibly eight more criminal charges.  We covered the changing of the law in this article back in May of 2016.

Of great interest to us is the fact the indictments point to Article VIII Section 1(a) of our Illinois State Constitution, which states “Public funds, credit and property shall only be used for public purpose.”  We are pleased to see the very arguments we made in several articles finally get put on paper in an official indictment.

Additionally, the charges pertaining to the purchase of a Yukon vehicle for his personal use is not any different than what the Limestone Township Highway Commissioner did.  Although he tried to downplay the seriousness of his actions, it is apparent he received a major wake up call from the Office of the Kankakee State’s Attorney as the vehicle has been returned to the dealer.

We urge everyone to read the record, which can be downloaded here or viewed below.
