College of DuPage – $36,797.14 Waterleaf drip continues

DuPage Co. (ECWd) –

In yet another confirmation of a systemic internal control problem at the College of DuPage, we have again confirmed previous Freedom of Information Act requests were being selectively complied with, which means documents we should have received were withheld.  Like a dog digging for a bone, we continue to uncover more wrong-doing at COD.  Our question still stands.

When will anyone be held accountable by law enforcement?

A previous request for all Waterleaf House accounts turned up Account #10, 20, and 30.  We shared those in this article back in June of 2015.  Then, after the IRS exposed even more illegal Waterleaf expenditures, we shared that info in this article.

Today I received the receipts for House account #1234567 which was clearly concealed from our previous FOIA requests and that of other media.  The Chicago Tribune had a tally of almost $350,000.00 spent at the Waterleaf.  Add this newly exposed $36,797.14 and we see the new total approaching $400,000.00 of tax payer money spent at the Waterleaf, all while kids are struggling to make ends meet.

A review of 47 pages of receipts once again reflects Breuder, his  Senior Administration, and the Board of Trustees living large to include dinners and booze for themselves and their spouses.   But it does not stop there.  These receipts also show more billing to the taxpayers by Trustees and their spouses.

While we are at it, let’s not stop with those public figures and their abuse of the taxpayer.  Why not let the community members do the same?  Yes, page 4 of the receipts reflect $5,524.01 spent on food and booze for 64 guests and the receipt states “Community Night Dinner”.  One can only wonder who enjoyed the taxpayer funded community night dinner.

Stay tuned for upcoming exposure of DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin’s participation in the enjoyment of the fine dining at the Waterleaf on the backs of the taxpayer as well.  The guy who claims to be in favor of limited government and reduced spending?

Must be nice for a Community College. Build your own 4 star French restaurant. Get unlimited free French entrees and booze and charge it to the taxpayer. Many bills have higher booze tabs than food! Looks like Brueder, the COD Senior Management, Foundation, and Board of Trustees partook in all of the goodies. Betcha the faculty were not included in the festivities. And no one in Senior Management thought this may not be such a good use of taxpayer dollars??? A serious lack of ethics. But wait, looks like those same Senior Managers are still employed at COD.

Wish someone dug into Breuder like this when he was at Harper….my taxes would probably be lower.

These latest findings are a good example of the free for all on tax payers backs right here in our backyard. If the county board president is involved there could be other officials who participated in the shenanigans at the college. Wonder if the Dupage county states attorney enjoyed a dinner at the waterleaf on the tax payers dime?
Lets give the watchdogs the credit they deserve. We need a fund raiser so they can continue their work uncovering corruption. Thank you Watchdogs!

… and let’s remember that these vast sums of money were also used in their accounting to show the “profitability” of the Waterflop.

Wonder how much of this goes on at park districts that run their own restaurants/bars?

Thank you for looking into DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin’s fine dining. Please also investigate the “no bid” contracts that were issued while Mr. Cronin was a member of the Foundation board. Rumor has it, Mr. Cronin found out the problems associated with the Foundation during his tenure were going to be exposed and abruptly resigned. This may be the greatest hypocrisy of them all, because Mr. Cronin claims to be in favor of limited government and reduced spending, but it is “OK” to issue no bid contracts with taxpayer’s funds?

Looks like there’s another account to FOIA and look through too: Chef Pierre LaRoux’s special account. The number is on one of those above slips.

While you’re looking at the reach of Comm. Cronin, see how transparent he is about his influence in getting his brother a job at the Worker’s Comp Commission… hmmmm

Wonder if the King Cronin will resign or just stay quiet thinking this will pass like all the other stuff some of these elected officials do. We need to pass this information to everyone like a chain letter. Most citizens have no idea what goes on in local government and may be the main reason why these so called public servants do what they want thinking there will be a NO consequences if caught. After a while they become deserving and just becomes a culture. They think the citizens are to stupid to even question anything they do. I have a feeling that this party is just starting to get rolling. Just how deep is the corruption ?
Eventually someone will cough up and spill the beans about the secret inter-circle of Dupage county. The Edgar County Watchdogs need our support. They are the ones who exposed this mess at COD and without them this would have continued to go on unnoticed allowing the fat cats to take advantage of tax payers till who knows when. Now is our chance to drive a stake into the corruption.
    Thank you EC Watchdogs.

Sounds like a restaurant you might want to take say….a governor to for a lovely evening paid for by taxpayers. Then you might try to finesse 20 million taxpayer dollars out of him. No, yes? In that vein the DuPage County “rain” tax has the look of an idea that was born out of a case of wine or 2 or 3, enjoyed at the Waterleaf.
