Reverse Spin’s Owners On A Paid Smear Campaign…again?…

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On November 3, 2013

PARIS, IL. (ECWd) –

Isn’t it interesting that after attorneys for Randy Steidl had an open letter to Gov. Quinn published recently requesting a pardon, the same people who worked for defense against Steidl, dusted off this old story?

Shortly after Steidl filed his federal wrongful prosecution lawsuit in 2005, defense attorneys working with Reverse Spin began an orchestrated smear campaign against Northwestern Medill Innocence Project, Prof. David Protess and former Illinois State Police Lt. Michale Callahan.

Dan Curry and John Pearman have also embarked on a new paid campaign to put what they consider “the truth” out there, if you want to see it, use google, as I will not further their agenda by posting it here.

A piece written on November 1, 2013, by David Protess is here. Some of the comments on that article are worth reading…

**John Pearman works (or has worked) out of Craig Smith’s Law Office (Asher, and Smith…formerly Asher, Smith, and Isaf) in Paris, Illinois and was instrumental in the Yes2PCHS campaign that got the question on the ballot where the voters in Districts 4 and 95 voted to approve bonds for the construction of a new high school. I also worked on that project in the making of the video for Yes2PCHS.

Doesn’t seem like a smear campaign at all. I’ve been reading and it makes same point this website made about goofy Clutter theory. Seems to be fair, thorough and well researched.

I don’t think we made any points about any goofy Clutter theory. If I recall correctly, we simply linked an article to our facebook page when it was on the news.

WhatReallyHappenedinParis.com is not a smear campaign at all. It is an effort to tell Edgar County residents and beyond that a major Chicago university, CBS News and a bunch of defense lawyers dramatically distorted the truth in the 1986 Paris murders case. I would think that a site called Edgar County Watchdogs would be interested in the truth. If you’d rather just take what Northwestern and CBS fed you without question, then no need to look at our site.

We are open to input from all sources, including you. Just curious as to why you are dragging all this up now and how much involvement you have in the inaction of the governor.

I just don’t see how individuals who earn their living being paid by clients to be their supposed public relations gurus, in a firm named, “Reverse Spin” can expect to garner ANY credibility or to be taken seriously. They are being paid to further an agenda and to counter information which their client(s) do not favor. I mean, c’mon. How do you seriously consider anything coming from a group which calls themselves, “Reverse Spin?” Reverse Spin originally became involved in this case on a multi-thousand dollar per month contract, on behalf of their client, Bob Morgan. And that’s fine. It’s called free enterprise and freedom of speech. I’m sure all of their clients pay them hefty sums to conduct positive media campaigns. But please don’t expect anyone to rely on Reverse Spin to be impartial. I’m not relying on them to tell me what is or is not being “distorted.” They are not investigative journalists, investigators or police officers. They are biased, paid, public relations people putting their “spin” on the facts. End of story. Take a hike, Reverse Spin. As they say, nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

It was CBS, Northwestern and other agents of the Steidl-Whitlock defense team that were “spinning” this case. Which is fine in pursuit of Randy’s and Herbie’s defense but not fine when it involves smearing innocent people along the way with bogus information. Our website is heavily quoting the court record and correcting much of the false narrative put forward to date. I was an investigative journalist before I was a PR person so please spare me your discussion of bias. We have stated exactly what we are trying to accomplish and you can judge for yourself the credibility of the information we are posting. JMKRAFT we are “dragging this up now” because to this day (Clutter’s recent filing), defense advocates continue to smear innocent people in this case. As for the Governor’s “inaction” in this case, I have no idea. In case you haven’t noticed, I am not close to the Governor or his party so I would have exactly zero influence on any of his decisions.
