Drunk Driving Trash Toter Bandit in Paris ?

From all appearances, the driver of this vehicle was “allegedly” driving under the influence of something when he decided to drive thru someone’s yard, run over a steel post, and run over their trash can.

After hitting the trash can, the driver scattered trash all over the yard, dragging the trash toter with him down the street.

It wasn’t very difficult to follow the scratch marks in the street, and when found, the truck still had a passenger in it who was still “sleeping it off” from last night.

The driver was located by the Paris Police Department.

Christmas Morning House Fire in rural Paris –

A Christmas morning house fire in rural Paris, Illinois called out firemen from Paris, Vermilion, and Oliver Fire Departments. Edgar County 911 was notified via cell phone at approximately 4:15 this morning of a house fire. By the time firemen arrived on scene is was fully engulfed in flames. It was believed that no one was at home at the time. The house was a total loss. Name of the home owner not known to us at this time.

Grass Fire on N. Main –

There was a grass fire on North Main Street in Paris that started around noon today.

The fire quickly spread to include five properties, the Paris Fire Department quickly arrived and put out the fire that was, at times, within a foot of several buildings, including two houses, a garage, and a few temprary storage buildings.

Just a friendly reminder, most of Edgar County and all of the City of Paris are still under a burn ban due to extremely dry spring and summer weather. Fires that start, spread fast in dry grass and can quickly get out of control.

Some pictures below.

House Fire on Carroll Street

There was a house fire on Carroll Street this afternoon. It started around 5:00 P.M. and the house was a total loss.

Two adults, Adam and Ginger Calloway, and three teenagers lived in the house at the time. No injuries reported, everyone got out of the house.

The Red Cross and the 40&8 were on site offering assistance to the family. The ECSSAA was also onsite in case they were needed.

I have included a 30 second video and a few pictures, I didn’t arrive until around 7:00 P.M.

The Paris Fire Department did an outstanding job containing the fire and were still on the scene when I left.

Speaking of barn fires…

As a “disclaimer”, I have absolutely no reason to believe this post has anything to do with my recent local barn fire video.

With that said, here is an urgent report from the State Fire Marshall’s Office (Edgar County is in MABAS26):

“I received a call from the State Fire Marshalls Office reference a rash of rural fires. These incidents have been in the MABAS 26 region. The incidents have been mostly rural buildings and homes that they are stealing tools and metals,  then setting the structures on fire before they leave. Please if you have an incident that maybe similar to this, please call the Arson Hot Line at 1-800-252-2947. They wish to be contacted and may want to come investigate, so with the information collected may lead to an arrest. If you have any questions please call the State or me and I can direct you in the right direction.”

Sounds like people are getting desperate for money and stealing metallic items to turn-in for scrap. I also understand that people are stealing tractor implements and parts for the same reasons.

Barn Fire @ Dyer Farm, N. of Paris
