WESLEY TOWNSHIP (ECWd) –

We have previously written about Wesley Township’s violation of the township code by charging fees/rent for residents and nonresidents to use the township park.

Today, as residents attempted to enter the park, they were told to leave because the park was rented out for a private party.

Our tipster stated this:

“I just drove to park and was asked to leave by United States Cold storage personnel. I saw Kathy Kennedy on way out who just glared at me when I asked her if she really closed down public park.  Workers told me they paid BIG money to rent it”

Unfortunately, the township continues to thumb its nose at township residents by violating the township code  as it relates to the township park: “shall be forever held and maintained, and improved as public parks for the free use of the public.” [60 ILCS 1/120-5(a)]

Yes, a company and its workers are “the public” but so are the rest of the public and the township cannot give preferential treatment to a part of the public. They cannot accept rent for the park either.
