Iroquois County – Hasbargen advice leads to violation of law by several board members!

By Kirk Allen & John Kraft

On July 13, 2017

Iroquois Co. (ECWd) –

Larry Hasbargen, the guy that threatened physical violance during a public meeting, (see this article), has once again proven his ignorance, or stupidity, depending on who you talk to, on the most basic obligation a public official has, compliance with the Open Meetings Act.

Hasbargen has a history of running his mouth about things he knows little about and once again we have an Attorney General Opinion that points to one solution for the County wide problem of Larry Hasbargen, take his shovel away!

Larry once again dug a deep hole when he felt it appropriate to school another board member about who their legal counsel is and who they should get their advice from, as he points to their State’s Attorney.

Hey Larry, would this be the same guy you were in closed session with during the Emergency Telephone System Board meeting along with a majority of a quorum of County Board members illegally discussing public business?

Yes, you were!

The Attorney General has once again exposed Iroquois County’s legal advice as lacking, as State’s Attorney Jim Devine was present and allowed the illegal meeting of the county board.  We wrote about that meeting in this article and stated, “This meeting of a majority of a quorum (of the County Board) in closed session was not posted with a notice or agenda 48hrs in advance and based on prior rulings by the Attorney General PAC office on matters almost identical in nature, we are confident their determination will be that the Iroquois County Board held an illegal meeting and met in closed session without proper authority.”

According to the Attorney General Public Access office;

“the Public Access Bureau concludes that the Iroquois County Board (County Board) violated OMA on April 19, 2017, when a majority of a quorum of the County Board participated in a meeting of the Iroquois County Emergency Telephone Systems Board (ETS Board) without complying with OMA’s procedural requirements.”

“ETS Board did violate section 2(a) of OMA by discussing a subject outside the scope of the section 2( c )(I) exception”

Hey Larry, how is that legal advice working out for you?  An example of how bad his so desired legal advice really is can be found with a quick review of numerous articles on serious problems in Iroquois County Government at this link.  Pick one, but make sure you have lots of coffee as we suspect some of you are going to spew that drink all over your computer screen when you see how bad things really are in Iroquois County Government.

Sadly for the citizens of that County, things have not gotten any better with the help of Larry Hasbargen.  There are now calls for his censure in relation to disparaging comments he has made about the Animal Shelter and its Administrator.

Our suggestion, Hasbargen should resign!

    Another excellent example school children should be shown so they can learn that some public officials (such as the one in the article above) not only do not deserve any respect, our scorn as well.

    Larry’s only appropriate response to all this that, came to mind was;

    “Uh, we’ve heard from you, shut up.”

    Looks like he could have found at least one big nose nugget this time.

    Better file a claim before the claim jumpers get there!
