Cahokia’s Mayor ordered Police Dept. to steal property of non-profit Community Food Bank –

CAHOKIA, IL. (ECWd) –

Last summer, after taking office, Mayor McCall ordered the Cahokia Police Department to steal all property belonging to the Cahokia Food Basket, a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization.

He did this without any legal authority.

He ordered them to “supervise” the non-profit and force them to place the freezers and refrigerators into a building owned by the city and refuses to give the equipment back to its rightful owners.

He appears to claim the equipment belongs to Cahokia, but cannot produce any inventory sheets or receipts for its purchase.

Coincidentally, he demands purchase receipts from the Food Bank before he will release it to them – the problem is that the equipment was donated to the food basket by citizens.

Listen to public comment on this subject (starting at about the 4:50 mark from their March 8, 2016 City Council meeting):

Can the food bank ask the county Sheriff to get involved. Would appear to me that the mayor should be arrested.
