Retired St. Joseph-Ogden High School Superintendent Jim Acklin is set to formally announce his candidacy for State Representative in the 102nd Illinois house district, to replace Adam Brown.   Brown recently announced his intentions to retire from the seat.
Acklin will be traveling the 102nd district making campaign stops as follows:
Wednesday September 23:
7:30am:  Ogden at the Ogden Veterans Park downtown Ogden
8:00am:  St. Joseph at the St. Joseph Veterans Memorial at SJ-O High School
9:30am:  Paris at the Edgar County Courthouse
11:30pm: Tuscola at the Douglas County Courthouse
1:30pm:  Sullivan at the Moultrie County Courthouse
2:30pm:  Shelbyville at the Shelby County Courthouse
Acklin said; “I have considered running for some time, and I feel that this is my time to step forward and contribute in a meaningful way.   Illinois is a tremendous state, but needs strong leadership to help put it back on track.   I grew up in Paris, which is a small town, like most of the 102nd district.  I understand the challenges that our communities are facing, as well as the challenges faced by our schools, small businesses and farmers.”
A resident of Ogden, Acklin is a lifelong educator who grew up in the Edgar County town of Paris. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University.  Acklin taught and coached at St. Joseph-Ogden HS and later was the Superintendent at the Shiloh School District before returning to SJ-O, where he retired as Superintendent this past summer.  He is married and has three children.
