CLARK CO. (ECWd) –

**A MESSAGE FROM SHERIFF JERRY PARSLEY**

I have received multiple private messages inquiring about my stance on the recent firestorm of gun control issues coming from Washington D.C. and Springfield IL.
In addition I have spoken with many people asking my position regarding this issue.

Let me start by saying that the safety and security of the people of Clark County is first and foremost in any d…ecisions I make. For anybody that knows me they most likely already know my position on the 2nd Amendment. For those that don’t, let me make it clear. I am a VERY strong proponent of a person’s right to defend themself, their families and their homes. In my 31 years with the Sheriff’s Office I have went on several calls where residents have had to defend themselves, and they were well within their rights in doing so.

As your Sheriff I take the responsibility in assuring that the law protecting you and protecting your rights are maintained.

I have taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution and will do just that.

Although we have had terrible tragedies in our country the evil people committing these atrocities are the ones that must be held accountable, not law abiding citizens.

That being said, this Office will not enforce any unconstitutional law or Executive Order in that regard. It would appear that we are a long way from either happening, however I believe no man made law can take away a person’s God given right to defend themself! I hope this clears up any questions which any of you may have had. If you have any questions please feel free to call me personally at the Sheriff’s Office or send a private message which will be forwarded to me.
Sincerely,
Sheriff Jerry Parsley

Uh, it was not God that wrote the 2nd amendment, it was men, and, men can change it or modify it. Protecting hearth and home is one thing and sport shooting and hunting are another, but you sure don’t need auto or semi auto guns and clips to bring down Bambi or Thumper……….or the robber climbing in your window.

He didn’t say God wrote the 2nd ammendment.

God did not give us the legal right to bear arms, the 2nd amendment to the Constitution did. The Sheriff upholds the law, God has nothing to do with it.

I’m not anti gun, I’m a gun owner, but certainly don’t need or want the weapons being discussed for this issue. Other than killing lots of people at a time, who, outside military or law enforcement, needs these rapid firing weapons?

Clips go in girls hair, magazines feed fresh rounds of ammunition into the awaiting chamber. Only people who don’t know anything about firearms call a magazine a “clip”. Here endeth the lesson.

Isn’t this how the bullets are fed into the chamber?

    Jeri,

I am sick of you anti gun people always throwing out the straw man mentioning hunting when refering to the second amendment. NOWHERE does it state I am alowed a gun to provide food for my table. But at the time it was written we had just thrown off the shackles of a Tyranical government where we had to take up arms against it. I am a good enough shot to kill a deer or a bunny, but when it comes to defending my family, and property I firmly believe in “Strength through superior fire power”. When the crap hits the fan, and it will at some point when we can no longer pay for all the entitlements that some are receiving, I want more firepower than the next guy that wants my food, my water, or my gasoline, or MY guns. Jeri, you will be the sheep to the wolves. God did not write the 2nd Ammendment, men who fought, Men who lived through times you have never even imagined, who were called terrorists by their government, and were jailed for their beliefs, wrote it knowing that once your right to protect yourself from the government is infringed upon, you are no longer a citizen, you are a servant. I am a Law Enforcement officer that you mention. I firmly believe that a law abiding citizen should be able to buy whatever weapon he wants. If he/she wants to spend the money for a Federal FFL license and posess fully automatic weapons then that is his right until such time as he loses the right by law. I and most if not all of my fellow officers have no problem with law abiding citizens owning any gun they want. I applaud Sheriff Parsley for his stance and hope more “Administrators” do the same and let our government know that we WILL NOT GO SILENTLY INTO THE NIGHT, and give up what to me IS God given.

          @Ray
As a law enforcement officer that is your job. Leave the lawmaking to Congress and let the Judiciary do the interpreting of said laws. That being said, I think dangerous weapons should be kept out of the hands of ignorant people. Let’s start with your keyboard.

      How am I anti gun?
Text of the 2nd Amendment is short and specific…
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Anyway, if I understand you correctly, automatic weapons are needed for law abiding citizens to defend themselves against their own government. The same government that all these people fought and died for.

When the 2nd amendment was written, there were no automatic weapons and guns were needed for defense of hearth and home and also to procure food for the table. King Georges’ army wasn’t the only threat to the people, Indian attacks weren’t uncommon either, nor were maurading animals.

It is no longer 1791 and we no longer rely on a civilian militia. Having been oppressed by a professional army, the founding fathers of the United States had no use for establishing one of their own. Instead, they decided that an armed citizenry makes the best army of all. General George Washington created regulation for the aforementioned “well-regulated militia,” which would consist of every able-bodied man in the country.

While the Founding Fathers may have supported the ownership of slow, expensive powder-loaded rifles, it’s doubtful that they would have been able to conceive of shotguns, assault rifles, handguns, and other contemporary weaponry. The key question is to what degree other considerations, such as the motives of the Founding Fathers and the dangers posed by contemporary firearms, may be relevant to the issue at hand. If you really wanted to overthrow the government, bearing arms probably isn’t enough. You’d need aircraft to take the skies, hundreds of tanks to defeat ground forces, and a full navy. The only way to reform a powerful government in this day and age is through nonviolent means.

The last time the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the civilian militia interpretation of the Second Amendment was 1939–over 70 years ago, at a time when policies enforcing racial segregation, banning birth control, and mandating recital of the Lord’s Prayer in public schools were also considered constitutional.

OK, you are a law enforcement officer. How’s that only law abiding citizens get guns thing worken’ out for you? Law abiding being the key word. Law abiding citizens don’t murder, rob,and create other mayhem, so that’s not your problem. The problem is the availabilty of the automatic weapons to the non-law abiding citizens.

I still say NO ONE, other than military and law enforcement need automatic weapons. I know, lets let everyone have any gun they want but regulate the hell out of the ammunition. Buy your bullets through law enforcement or regulated ammo shops, with background checks, mental health checks etc. Damn privacy, full speed ahead.

BTW, take your straw man and shove it in your kids empty stomachs if you think that guns, in 1791, weren’t for putting food on the table.
